Responding to CPS’s invitation to engage with Murcia’s prison environment, each artist presents works that were generated through photography and video making workshops with inmates. By enabling inmates from across various grades within the penitentiary system to document and represent their experiences, the artists uncover the media’s relationship with the formation of ‘reality’ and the politics of the image. The projects on view not only call into question personal narratives, but also speak of the wider set of relations between the prison’s users, whether they are guards, administrative staff, social workers or visitors. In doing so they unearth the very real and imagined structures of power and resistance, as well as the legal frameworks that lay at the core of the penal system.

MUBAM Museum de Bellas Artes (Murcia) – This centrally-located dedicated art venue will host exhibitions centred on media’s relationship with the formation of ‘reality’ including the outcomes of the workshops in the Murcian prison environment.

Artists include: Nada Prlja (Macedonia/UK), David Rych (Austria/Germany) and Marcelo Exposito & Veronica Iglesia (Spain/Argentina).
