Laurent Grasso’s film depicts the defensive system of Cartagena as an archaic device of surveillance and an iconic object of the relation between North Africa and Cartagena. Due to the strategic position of its harbour in the Mediterranean, Cartagena has gradually been endowed with batteries, fortresses, towers and castles to protect the city from dangers such as piracy or other fleets which regularly raided the city. Through histories and legends brought to us by a voice over the film explores notions of fear and paranoia creating a parallel between events of the past and the present.
